Description

Providing nesting wool for birds is a lovely way to support them raising their young. Soft, warm and comfortable nests are incredibly valuable for birds.

Wool is thermoregulating so will keep birds, chicks and eggs warm in the cold weather but cool during hot spells. Alpaca is of course the perfect wool for nests. It’s strong, hypoallergenic, and naturally water resistant. The smooth fibre structure won’t irritate delicate chicks and is super soft.

Hang your holder in a visible location near shrubs or on tree branches between January and July.

The holder contains only 100% UK alpaca fibre, ethically sourced and fully traceable from our own herd. This is fibre unsuitable for spinning into yarn (for example the fibre length is too short). The shorter fibre lengths make it perfect for nesting material as it is easy for songbirds to carry. Colours will likely be a mixture of black, fawn and white, but if you want a specific colour please contact us at admin@fleursfibres.co.uk and we’ll see what we can do.

Alpacas are so gentle on their environment that they are pretty much carbon neutral. The nesting fibre is unprocessed and unwashed (meaning it may contain small pieces of hay or other vegetation) so is as natural and sustainable as possible.

Now proudly plastic-free with a sturdy metal holder. Our plastic holders have been discontinued. All holders can be repurposed as fat ball / suet /scrap feeders during the autumn and winter, then refilled with one of our refill packs from January/February.

These make a unique and thoughtful gift for bird lovers.

Since putting the nesting material out it’s been lovely watching the birds come and go to take bits away. It’ll be a regular addition to the garden.
